Title: Public Health Agency of Canada

Title: National Microbiology Laboratory - PulseNet Canada

Welcome to the Emergency Operations Centre of the National Microbiology Laboratory. This is where the Public Health Agency of Canada manages and controls our national response to infectious disease events.

PulseNet USA and PulseNet Canada are virtual laboratory networks with central national databases. These databases show the genetic patterns of unique strains of bacteria causing human illness.

PulseNet is a critical surveillance system used to quickly identify and respond to foodborne disease outbreaks. A standardized laboratory method permits inter-laboratory comparison and communication of information about foodborne illnesses, indicating a common source of food contamination.
